We had a most unwelcome visitor last week, you know her as Sandy, we have some less sanitized names for her. When she left, she took the power with her. Lucky for me, we were only out for 6 days but many of the Sisters are still in the dark, and other friends lost it all. it's just heart breaking....
in my little corner of the world, there are definitely lessons learned from this. For me, being prepared and having the right equipment to weather the storm and the aftermath made all the difference. when I was teaching quilting classes I would always tell my students that you need and deserve the best equipment, and emergency kits are no different!
But just as important as the camp stove or the extra batteries, being equipped with patience, ingenuity and a sense of humor certainly helped in my house. Especially when it came to food. The new Sandy lunch special was a hot dog roll with Nutella on one side, peanut butter on the other and a banana where the hot dog would go, right down the middle. The kids loved it (me, not so much, but that's ok). Now we just need to come up with a name of this "gor-met" lunch.
So one of the other lessons learned, was fine applique by candle light does not really work. So instead I pulled out the wool and finished up my Sue Spargo table runner. those big threads and big needles and big stitches worked much better than trying to thread an applique needle with silk thread.
