No mincing words!

Don't you just love Marsha McCloskey?  Here's a woman you obviously can trust to tell it to you straight---no mincing words for her:

I just love this sub-title!

It's a rainy, icky day out so I'm going to work on my piecing skills and this seems like a good project to do it on.  No particular quilt in mind...who knows what will happen after one "really hard block".

So wish me luck....I'm going in!

Tumbling....

No, not gymnastics....tumbler blocks!Triangle

I went to a little "cutting party" the other day, really it was excuse to spend time with our wayward friend Lorre, visiting from across the pond. We cut tumblers for me and triangles for them.....I'm a project behind them, they already did tumblers and are now onto Triangles...

Love these templates, Kathie tells me I'm supposed to take the paper off the outside of them so you can see what your cutting.  DUH!  what was I thinking.

It  reminded me of a kooky college friend who tells the stories of early days of marriage and trying to find her way around the kitchen.  Apparently , when the package of frozen vegetables say to put "entire box of peas into boiling water", she did just that!

Bagotumblers
So anywho.....dear Patty brought a bag of leftover tumblers (what did we do before Ziploc bags???)

And, oh goodness, when I emptied out, there must be hundreds!
Tumblers

Thanks for the tumblers Patty!  ...and thanks for hosting the cutting party Kathie!

It's so nice to spend time solving world problems (or at least how to handle those pesky children of ours) over a cup of coffee and a pile of fabric.

Now I suppose you will expect to see a finished tumbler quilt?

Turning 30...

I WISH!!!

Don't you love to try new gadgets?  well, I decided to take a break from reality (you know...all those projects I supposed to working on) and try some new gadgets using a 30's charm pack I picked up at VQF.

The first is the tumbler....after seeing my friend Kathie's cover the the 2008 American Patchwork and Quilting Calendar, I had to try my hand at tumbling...Calendar_cover

and then I strapped on my new #57 foot, thanks to the recommendation of Brenda, and started on a quick little project.

And in no time at all I had a little 30's tumbler.  I think this will go off to my little friend....I can't tell you who, cause she reads my blog!

30s

Here's my review of these tools.....

LOVE the tumbler...quick and easy to use, I'm leaving this on my cutting table so I cut up scraps as they come along and sometime (way in the future), I'll have enough for a quilt.

LOVE the #57 foot.  The nice thing about this one is that it has a little spring action in it, so it can bounce over the pins (I'm a big pin-ner).  It's a shade different than my 1/4" foot, so I'm glad I didn't change feet in the middle of a project.

Makes me wonder....what other wonderful gadgets do I have that I haven't tried out yet?  do you?

Learning the hard way....

I went back to my One Block Wonder this weekend and it seems I forgot a few things from the class, so I am passing on to you my "Monday Morning Quilt Quarterbacking" tips.

First----cut out all of your pieces while you still remember all of the tips and tricks for cutting.  Thank goodness for friends with a better memory (Thanks Rita!!!)

Second -- take pictures along the way, you get a different view of the quilt thru the camera lens than standing in the room with it. (this is still a work in progress)

And third----pinning the blocks to the design wall before the cats go berserk will save you alot of time in the end.

And last---sometimes a nap is in order....
