It's been a crazy week so far, class after work, parent-teacher conferences, etc. So it's nice to be able to look at my finishes from the weekend instead of the unfinished projects so far this week....

It started out a a lovely little piece of fabric, but not the star of the show and then Lorre waved her magic wand, placed her golden touch on it and magically it landed on my front steps last week. Isn't that the nicest thing to come home from work to find this treasure?

really I have no business starting a new non-Christmas project, but I have a wedding gift that needs some tending to.....I've been stewing over a design that is "just-right" for this couple.
Well, I settled on a pattern I picked up on a Vermont Quilt Festival roadtrip.
Now I know this seems like a quilt I could have figured out on my own but sometimes it's just easier to support the economy and buy the pattern. Well let me tell you...Miss Rosie (Carrie) made it SIMPLE! I just love when smart people do the heavy lifting for me.
So it's a great way to use strips that I already had in my strip-bin and then use one of the rulers that I bought without really knowing what to do with it and presto I have blocks.
Now I might actually get another quilt done before Christmas without taxing the brain.

It's holiday madness here and there's changes swirling all around here, so keeping up with posting has been quite the challenge.
My DS#1 started his first full time, big-company-with-benefits-in-the-big-city job. Needless to say, I'm thrilled!!! Oh, one little snag---he needs to be out the door by 5:15. So being the total worrying type, I've been up and making sure that he's out the door on time, etc. The good thing for me is that since DH and DS#1 are both out the door by 5:15, I'm feeling like I'm getting alot more done. Ok, so maybe the hours of sleep are nowhere near 8 or 7 or 6, but eventually, I will give up being the worrying mom and buy him an alarm clock. Yikes, this letting go thing is tough business.
anyhoo...before the sun rose today I finished the last of the backpacks and totes. Here's the Girlie Girl tote by Tammy Tadd in totally teenage colors.
I hope my niece likes it.....
Now that all the gift totes are done, I should probably address the cookie, or lack of cookie, situation.

Well, you know I have a few zippers, courtesy of Barbie Van Wonderful, so I'm trying a few new wrinkles on my little gifts pouches.
Today I added a little geese and the square bottom to this one.
this one is a gift....but come January I might need to make a little gift for me!

We had a fun Thanksgiving, starting with a call from our neighbors, alerting us that the water was about to be shut off in the street because of a water main break further down the line. So we took the 2 minute showers and filled up every pot, pan pitcher and bucket we could find. So it was a challenging day, but the water did come back on in time to do the dishes.
And after a few restful days in the woods, it's back to Santa's workshop....this morning I made this pouch. I used Fast2Fuse instead of my normal pellon fusible fleece so it is definitely stiffer but I figured that was probably good if the recipient is going to carry scissors, rotary cutter, etc. in it.
I just couldn't help myself, it just needed a little yo-yo, don't you think. This was so quick I think I'll make more....oooo, maybe the next one will get a little ric-rac. Barbie VanWonderful gave me a whole bunch on zippers in all sorts of colors, so now the challenge is to find fabrics that match-ish. I bet I can find something in my wee little stash.

My Doll Quilt Swap package arrived and what joy! My swap partner Kelly read my blog and noticed that I am embroidery - challenged so she picked up the challenge and made this beautiful bunch of apples for me!
This is a perfect reminder of fall apple picking for me. THANKS Kelly!!!!

Today's project was little girl backpacks....
I started with a pattern and revised it quite a bit. I added pellon 987 for some body. But because of the pellon it made it hard to put in the grommets the pattern called for, so I sewed on little side strips and tied them in a bow to help keep the shape of the pack, but allow for expansion if the recepient stuffs alot into it.
This one is for an 11 year old, the next is for a 6 year old so I think I will size it down just a bit. Now that I've worked out the kinks, the second one should go alot faster, hopefully I can get it done tonite while company dinners and video game tournaments are on. Keeping me company tonite: Freedom Writers from Netflix. I love to see stories where teachers are the heros!
No elves showed up for work today, so I better get back to it....

We've got a little Santa's workshop going on here....trying to have lots of handmade gifts for the holiday.
So here's a little table runner that will get quilted today and whisked off to a dear aunt for an early gift for the season...
now if I could just hire a team of elves, this Christmas thing would go alot faster!

I got a little sidetracked this week getting the baby quilt done, but it's finally all quilted and prairie-pointed.
I'm thinking (never a good sign) this might be a good quilt for a "start to finish" class. Sometimes I sense that quilting students get frustrated by the "tops only " classes, especially those just getting started, so this little gem could take them from cutting through to finishing in just a few classes.
What do you think???
Guess it means I'm going to have to re-make this, as this one will wing it's way to our newest tenant in our rental house. Hope he likes this little welcome to the world gift.
