What I hear from the other room

Shrek 2 is in the DVD player and the song "Holding Out for a Hero"  is playing

words to the song say   ...."it's gonna take a super man to sweep me off my feet"

Twin#2:  Wow, she must be really fat if it's gonna take Superman to sweep her off her feet

Don't you just love him?

Channelling Panels

My LQS owner asked me to quilt up a new Christmas panel by Nancy Halvorsen, but you know I couldn't just quilt it and bind it, I had to put a nice little border treatment on it!

Xmasbanner Super simple little border, a couple of FQs and some red to match the panel and you are good to go.

But know that I am quilting it, let me share one word of advice.....when you do a piano key border, stay-stitch the outside edge of the border to keep it from going all pyscho on you.....believe me, I learn everything the hard way....need I say more?

And speaking of pyscho....I was in Macy's yesterday and they had the Christmas displays up already!!!!!   Please, Mr Macy, I'm trying to get Halloween decorations up, don't get me all confused.

Head for the border

Sometimes you just have to wait for the spirit to move you, right?

My little blue and white stars had been waiting patiently in a basket on the table for inspiration to move them to the design wall.  Friday, they FLEW!  I worked late into the night, slept for a few hours and then back to the machine til it was done.  Honestly, I don't know why I work this way, but I do.  It's my Sit a Spell Method.  First I sit a spell then I work like a bat outta H E Double Hockey Sticks.

Bluestars
So now I gotta head to the LQS to find some borders and then I'm really done. And other than the borders, no fabric was purchased for this quilt, so that's a bonus.

This is a class that I'm teaching, but definitely one I had fun making too....once the spirit gave me a boot in the butt.

these rulers rule!

I'm a little off kilter, a member of the family is not well.  Ok, so it's not a human or even living member, but still, one that is important to general well being of the household, ok, just me then.  My Bernina is winging it's way to Berninaland---it's motherboard has gone ka-plu-ey.  I know....a moment of silence please for our dear departed motherboard.

Backupmachine So in steps my travel machine----my little Janome.  (See, you can love more than one company)  Thank goodness for this little gem!  Everyone should have a backup machine, especially when sewing on a regular basis helps to maintain some level of sanity.

I've been piecing a class sample for the last two days and have realized my respect for the square ruler.

Goodness knows I don't need anymore fabric, so I've been collecting all sorts of templates and rulers.  I now have the square rulers in MANY sizes.  I'm a firm believer in squaring up your blocks along the way so having a square ruler for every size block I'm doing has certainly made this task a whole lot easier.  And what a difference it makes to the finished quilt!  Things line up easier and the quilt lay flat when it was all done.
Squarerulers

So ruler collectors unite! Collect those rulers, square ones, long ones, short ones....And be sure to put them in a place where you can find them----finding it when you need it (before you buy another one) is half the battle!

Oops I Lost a Week

Did that every happen to you....you misplace a week somewhere?  Maybe I lost it somewhere between teaching 5 quilting classes, back to school nite, birthday goings-ons, etc.

Anywho, I ended the week in a most delicious way, with the first meeting of the Aunt Millie's Gang (and our adopted Cousin Caryn).

Auntmillie1 What a treat to see how everyone is getting started!

I'm doing mine on a brown background (apparently it's the new black). We had some red backgrounds, black and white and backgrounds to be named later from the absentee members of the gang.

Part of the fun of getting together is seeing how everyone approaches their applique.....what tools they use, threads, needles, etc.  Everyone does what works best for them, there's no wrong way to do applique....other than not doing it!!

And of course some delicious treats and alot of laughter are an important part of the day too.  Thank goodness the boys had low expectations for dinner cause I wanted to keep working on my block even after the ladies left... the plates of leftover cookies probably help to ease the pain of macaroni and cheese from a box.

Thanks for a nice afternoon Gang!

I've been 'sperimenting

So I got this idea that I wanted to make a bag with a flap, rather than the type I've been making with the open top.   So hey, why not try a messenger bag.  Let me tell you....easy, peasy!

Messengerbag1
 and my laptop fits inside...

Messengerbaginside
it will go out for a test run as soon as I get DS#1 to cut me a little piece of acrylic to stabilize the bottom of the bag.

Think this will be my Tuesday Tote class for November at Aardvark.

I was very sedate in my fabric selection while I was 'sperimenting, I think I feel another messenger bag coming on.....

Wish I could be more mysterious

oooo, I'm working hard on lollipop sashing and class samples, but thought I'd share a little recipe in the meantime.
Saladstuff

One of the salads that went over big at the birthday bash/hurricane party this weekend as simply these ingredients------

Mix to taste.

That's it.  Guests asked for my recipe as if I had slaved over it.  I wished I had a more complicated recipe to give them, or a better accent in which to give them the recipe.  But in the end, simple is good.

And yesterday, I mixed up another little batch for lunch and added leftover grilled chicken.

So there you go....enjoy!

The Party's Over

We thought it was a birthday bash, but it turned out to be a hurricane party.  A lot of our work friends were called into duty because of the storm, so we called our close-by friends and announced "there's food and alcohol"....need I say more???  the last of the guest left at 9:30 this morning!   We had fun and thankfully had no rain or wind damage, just a very full pool.  Hope everyone else was as lucky.

So now I turn my thoughts to the classes I have ahead.  I finished putting together this little tote today---
Tuesday_tote
For me, it's the perfect size for the essentials, the wallet, date book, camera and lippy (lip stuff - gloss, chapstick, whatever I have at the time), but I think I'll put a second size available in the pattern/class.

This is a class I'm doing at Aardvark in Morris Plains as part of the Tuesday Tote series....so join the fun if you're in NJ.

Also, I'm thinking about hosting a little Aunt Millie Tea Party for anyone in the NJ area who's working on the Aunt Millie's quilt.  So let me know if you'd be interested in attending.

Now I think I need a nap!!

My Mom is A Dork

It would be best for all involved if they would just memorize this phrase.

With 2 people starting 5th grade today, I thought this would be a nice way to greet the day

Happy5th_3
I got:

DH:  uh honey, I think it's the 4th

Twin#2:  what???

Twin#1:  you forgot the zero
(dad's 50th birthday bash is 2 days away)

DS#1: oh God

If they would just play along and say "that's great Mom/Honey" life would be calmer, now they will be made to suffer, now that I have time alone to plot my revenge for their lack of appreciation.

Oh no, I think my evil twin was showing.....
