Random Acts of Color

I'm finishing up the lollipop borders.....it's a study in random, I'm not concerning myself with the combinations of fabrics or if they will all look good in the borders when it all comes together, cause, well look at this mess.....
Lollipopborders
if one or two fabrics were off, would you even see if or notice?

I figure I need to focus on finish this project , not sweating the small stuff, or the orange stuff or purple stuff.....hopefully next time you see these little beauties they will be trimmed and sewn into the borders, but not until a very important person turns a very important birthday later this week (it's not me!)

New Project Brewing......

The Lollipops are nearly complete for me.....I'm only doing 9 of the 16, and I'm working on the borders during my week in the woods.  So now it's time to look forward to the next project of applique insanity.

This one's been brewing for a while.  I've been trying to convince my friends or maybe it's convincing myself that this one's next.  But really, it's sooooo beautiful!

So that's it, I'm doing this one next.....anyone want to play along?????  I'm thinking I'll do one a month-ish, once I settle on a color scheme, starting next month-ish.

Hope you enjoy this last week of summer, bring on the fall! I'm so ready for school to start!

The Natives are Restless

it's the start of the "can we go in the pool" season, and I've been caught unaware and unprepared.  Usually I accumulate a pile of books for light poolside reading.  So far, I only have these...what else do you suggest????
Books
and I better get some applique to work on as well.....Block#6 is prepped.

I thought maybe it was toooo pink, but it seems to play well with others, so I'm sticking with it.

This time of year is MADNESS!!!! with all the end of year goings on, and some secret project commitments, but the pool beckons and the natives must be appeased, so I'm getting a glass of iced tea and  taking the lifeguard chair.  Hope you find time for a little break this weekend too!

Civil War Blocks

Today I decided to tackle a few Civil War Blocks in between the deadline projects...

these blocks are so rewarding, little 6-1/2" victories!  Hope you are victorious today too.

Time out for a Lollipop

I've been feeling the effects of the spring sprouting of trees, grasses, flowers....spring is definitely a mixed blessing here.

I should be working on a certain medallion quilt and some class samples and some magazine quilts, but the decided instead to work on a lollipop block.....something a little less taxing on my foggy brain...
Lollipop5prep_3
I'm finding more and more that a photo reveals things that the eye doesn't always see.....like things that don't look symmetrical (like those light green leaves).  In this monster of a quilt there's so much going on that a little un-even-ness will probably not really show, but while it's still pinned I might as well fix it.

Working on this block definitely has helped to brightened by day....now I guess I'll do some hand sewing, cause it's probably not safe to operate heavy machinery like the vacuum, stove or oven, while I'm on allergy medication.

More Civil War....

I took a little time this morning, before the children woke, to spend some time at the machine....look what I did!

As you can see from the middle block, there are clearly some place where striped prints present some difficulties, but I'm sticking to "finished is better than perfect".

I think it's time now to take a look at where I am with row 1.  I have a few more blocks for this row so I want to make sure that I have a range of different colors in each row.

I'm sensing a decided lack of purple in my blocks, mostly because the bin of CW fabrics is not as robust as other, but I know where I can remedy this.....(no,not Kathie's house) the LQS, or maybe I should start making a shopping list for Vermont.....is anyone else going???

Looky Looky

Look at me, 2 posts in one day!!!  And now I completely up to date on the Dear Jane front!

Now that we are nearing the completion of row B, I think I better put them up on the wall to see how they flow together....honestly, I have not really been paying attention to the colors in each block as a row, I've been picking things I like figuring they will all go together.  So I'll do a little look-see and try a few sashing choices as well......

it's exciting, I'm really starting to feel like I might actually see this thru to the end  ---blocks only, no triangles(I think).

Now maybe I'll spend a little time with the Civil War friends.

Fighting the tempation

I have been having such fun with my lollypops (some would say over-achieving!) that my poor little DJ and CWD blocks are getting neglected.  So I'm fighting the temptation to start a new lollypop block til I get caught up with my little friends.

So here's my first few catch-up blocks for DJ...

If all goes well today, in between snack stand duty and baseball games and "I'm hungry, Mom", I might actually get Jane all up to date.....think hopeful thoughts!!!

Lorre Sighting.....

What a wonderful treat, our wayward friend Lorre is in town ( way too briefly!!!!!) so we spent a little giggle/inspiration/show n tell time together yesterday.

Apparently, Little Miss Sneak Ahead has been in cahoots with Mrs McSneaky and has been helping to conceal that work on the Lollypop Quilt was actually in progress, even though she denied it.  So blocks were revealed, and they are beautious!  It's funny that we all started with the same pile of fabric and each of the blocks are so different.....here's my 4 finished blocks----about a million more pieces to applique to finish the quilt.

And dear Patty made me a center for my yet-to-be-started medallion quilt....these are soooo "my colors"
Centermed
thanks Patty!!!!

I'm feeling a little shopping coming on for this project.....I'll just sit for a bit, maybe it will pass....besides I have some DJ and CWD catching up to do.  oooo, now might be a good time to employ the "cut for multiple projects" technique.

Lollipop Envy

We are heading to the beach for a few days and I needed a little handwork to do.  I just loved Patty's (aka Little Miss Sneak Ahead) red and more red on Block #4 of the Lollipop Quilt, so I had to make one of my own...yikes, it's bright!!!
Lollipop4
there may be a little re-arranging of the block once they are all done, but for now, I'm winging it color-wise and hoping for the best.

And I have gotten 2 calls in the last 2 days of people who are catching the CWDQ fever.  These projects are absolutely contagious!!  Join in, or find some friends and start your own project, it's a little like Weight Watchers for quilters---support, friendship, very few calories and if you stick with it, you'll be really happy with the results.
