Will Work for Fabric

What I did on my summer vacation....

We just got back from a little trip to Cape Cod....and got home just in time to avoid any Hurricane Bill inconvenience.  We were really lucky and had sun everyday, I guess Mother Nature knew I would be really cranky if I was stuck inside for a week.

So we fished (sometimes you just gotta get in there with the fishes!),

 
we swam, and while they were not paying attention and Mom was at the wheel, the car made it's way to Tumbleweed Quilts.  Goodness knows I don't need fabric....but I did pick up this:

It's a BEAUTIFUL coffee table type book with heavy glossy pages and wonderful quilt histories.  To me, it was well worth the money....and maybe, just maybe, and inspiration quilt will come from here, there's so many to oogle over.  Here's two that I love...

Now back to work, back to school soon and back to quilting weather...

How did we get here?

Today my trusty friends at Amazon delivered!  I pre-ordered, I waited, and today it arrived.  mmmm, the new book smell....

This is not your "oooo, look at the pretty pictures book"  this is nearly 500 pages of quilt history , 587 quilts in all.  I'm certainly no expert on quilt history, but I know enough to look to Lincoln Nebraska when I want to know something.   And that's exactly where this book came from (well maybe not this specific book, but you know what I mean).

This book is certainly an investment ....but to me it's worth it.
                    .....I'm just saying.

P.S.  You may need your magnifying glass to see close-up on the quilts, some of the plates are small, but that's ok with me.

Mr Postman delivers

I've been anxiously awaiting.....and for Valentine's Day, my friends at Amazon and the USPS delivered!

Did you get yours?  If you didn't, RUN out and get it!  it's a pretty book, with LOTS of projects....well worth the money! 

Ooo, lots of quilty things starting up around here....shows, classes, new projects, can't wait!  (I keep hearing that song---"Here comes the Sun"-----thank goodness the Oompa Loompa song is gone!)  More to share later....

Oh I had so many nice comments yesterday.....of course all I had in my head all day was the OompaLoompa song, so thanks alot for that!

Yesterday, this book was in the mail

I ordered it a while ago with the medallion quilt in mind.  What a great book---lots of detailed photos, lots of ideas!  This is a must have, especially for the beginnner's library.....I'm going to recommend it to my students, and you should have it too!

Can't Help Myself

Books and me....I just can't help it,
                                         I can't help myself....maybe there's a support group I should find....

But yahoo, look what I got...

when I got to the effort of using repro fabrics, I would like to use historical correct quilting patterns, so this book is a godsend in that department.

AND....

how can I be expected to resist a new applique book????

The Natives are Restless

it's the start of the "can we go in the pool" season, and I've been caught unaware and unprepared.  Usually I accumulate a pile of books for light poolside reading.  So far, I only have these...what else do you suggest????

and I better get some applique to work on as well.....Block#6 is prepped.

I thought maybe it was toooo pink, but it seems to play well with others, so I'm sticking with it.

This time of year is MADNESS!!!! with all the end of year goings on, and some secret project commitments, but the pool beckons and the natives must be appeased, so I'm getting a glass of iced tea and  taking the lifeguard chair.  Hope you find time for a little break this weekend too!

This Civil War project has caught me a little off guard....it's uncharted territory for me, repros, period correct fabrics....yikes! what have I done?  Before I buy any more fabric, I better figure out what the heck I'm looking for!  So the first stop:  my bookshelves.  And what should I find there, but just the perfect book for the occasion:

Last nite, I started really reading it (not just scanning the pictures). Wow, there's so much information here---Thank you Barbara Brackman!

I guess I'll be carrying this book with me on my next fabric acquisition outing.

But it also got me thinking....what else is lurking on the bookshelf?  If you are like me, you buy books, look at the pictures, oogle over the quilts, pick out which ones you might make, sometimes read the text and then set it aside in the Hopeful section of the bookshelf.

Guess I should go back and visit some of these old friends....I might actually learn something
(oooo, scary!)

I Believe!

Last week, some of the Lollipop Ladies took a break from making the lollipop quilt to take a little side trip to make another quilt.  Kathie told me what book it was from, and it was not one I had in my collection.  It's a must have, she said, so I hopped right onto Amazon and located the book.....well, I believe!  This is a must have book.

Our lovely postal person delivered the package on Friday so I spent hours this weekend pouring over the book, marking the pages with little post-its reminding myself what I loved on this page, going thru it over and over.... my other books are so jealous.

I bought the book used on Amazon, and again, I Believe!  it came quickly, wrapped in plastic and in great condition, it was a good experience.   I don't mind that it's a little frayed around the edges...it's just like me.
