The snow is falling up here in the woods, it's a nice quiet day, time for figuring out the resolutions.....one's I'll actually stick too!
I know one of them is to address the UFO issue in the quilting department. I have a few that have been hanging out for a while. The first one I'm working on is the hardest one of all....this is a bumpy start. Well actually, it's a bumpy quilt!
Quite a while back, I set out to make this quilt. I pieced all the blocks, they all laid flat. I appliqued the set-in triangles and the border and then pieced together the inside of the quilt.
Yikes, it's a mountain range not a quilt top!
I think the error in my way was to applique onto the actual size triangle and the applique squeeched them in a little so there was some tugging and easing in when I sewed the star blocks in. I know sometimes bumps will "quilt out". But that's not what I want. I want to do it right!
So today, during the movie marathon, I'm taking this quilt apart. Thank goodness I had the good sense to buy more fabric to re-do these triangles when I first discovered Mount Saint Star Quilt, so I can re-applique onto bigger triangles and trim them to size after.
I'm hoping this is the bumpiest bump in the road for 2009, so might as deal with it first.
Hope your 2009 is healthy and happy and that all your quilts lay flat!
Hugs and Stitches!
