« Guild Fun | Main | Most Delicious Day »

Channelling Sinatra

I love to take classes with interesting instructors, even if I know I will never do that project again, cause I know I will learn something from each of them. And I'm lucky to be in a guild that is able to bring in teachers from all over the country.

So Tuesday, I did the Judi Gunter class.   I had loads of fun with the Sisters of Disorderly Conduct, lots of laughing, kind-hearted jesting and some sewing too.  Judi's technique for doing the feathered star is to use interfacing for the foundation instead of paper.  I totally understand the desire to do a foundation that doesn't require you to spend hours ripping paper off the back of the blocks.  But for me, the interfacing had too much "give".  Maybe my tension was too tight, stitches too small, I just don't know.

But I hate to have another Not Quite Finished project, so I finished it "My Way".

Judi's beautiful design had more little tiny pieced stars in the center block, but yikes, I just want to get this done and I tried the method enough to understand the basics, so I finished it up yesterday without the little stars.  Hey, finished is better than perfect, right?

And today the Sisters are off to the big city.....let's just see what trouble we get into

Hugs and Stitches!

Looks great "Your Way" and you are so right...I'm with you...finished is always better. Have fun today.

Wow, from this side of the screen, it DOES look perfect. So beautiful.

Did I hear someone say it is your birthday????? Happy Birthday and the star looks great.

Hi Megan! Hey, I think that finishing it your way is the perfect way! I still have several UFO's from classes I took - so I agree. . . getting it done is the best!
Hope you have fun in 'the city'!

(Happy BD???. . . & a Happy Birthday too!)

Totally agree! Finished is better than perfect. I am almost finished with mine which is an accomplishment for me! I also had the same thought --- skip the piecing in the center of the star :)

Finished in better than perfect is a great philosophy! I have never done anything perfect but do the best I can. Most projects turn out 'good enough' for me and others think they are tops. We tend to judge ourselves much to hard.

Finished is better than perfect is the way to go. Feathered stars are one of my favorite blocks, and yours is beautiful.

Gorgeous! Stars are my favorite. Great colors!
